Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)

We fully understand our role and responsibilities when it comes to society and contributing to the communities in which we operate.

Giving back to our communities

As a global company, we fully understand our role and responsibilities when it comes to society and contributing to the communities in which we operate. It forms an integral part of our sustainability agenda. Whenever possible, we try to make a positive difference to the world around us. We engage with people and partner with various organisations to help bring the AkzoNobel brand to life, while also supporting deserving and sustainable projects and causes. Our CSR agenda is based on pillars of education, economic development through skill building and preventive healthcare & sanitation.

Over the years, our commitment to the development of our country and our communities has always remained significant, and a guiding principle of the way we do business.

Empowering Education
  1. The project provides early childhood, non-formal and remedial education for over 5,000 less privileged children who are at Govt. schools or dropped out of school.
We have partnered with State Governments of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra to establish Model Anganwadis. As a part of the initiative, we have refurbished the Anganwadi buildings, trained the teachers, created innovative teaching models and have also created tools to monitor the child’s health and education development. We support special schools which promote education for special children where various types of activities are conducted for all-round development of the children and to make them independent. We partner with NGOs to develop cultural, sporting and learning abilities of these special children.
Road Safety
  1. AkzoNobel has joined hands with Govt. of Punjab and Maharashtra, to conduct comprehensive road safety awareness programme among 25,000 school children and college youth in 94 schools and 25 colleges of Mohali and Navi Mumbai. We have named this project as Mission Salamati: Jeevan Raksha Abhiyan. In this project, students are sensitised and educated about road safety, safe behaviour and traffic rules. The project is being run through two phases. In phase one, presentations and interactive discussions were organised with school children regarding traffic rules, safety practices and causes of road accidents. In phase two, students participated in various activities organised for them in schools like extempore speech, poster making competition, etc. The project has been widely appreciated by local media and Govt. authorities for raising awareness on road safety at a mass level.
Vocational Skill Training
  1. In synergy with Govt. of India’s (GOI) flagship programme ‘Skill India’, AkzoNobel has initiated skill training in painting to promote employability among youth. In this regard, AkzoNobel has opened up AkzoNobel Paint Academy in nine cities of India (Delhi, Kolkata, Mohali, Mumbai, Lucknow, Pune, Gorakhpur, Kochi and Bengaluru) which offer skill training in Decorative Paints and Vehicle Refinish. The short term skill training in Vehicle Refinish is one of the first of its kind training in the country which is helping hundreds of youth get skilled employment in the automobile sector. Similarly, the Decorative Paint trainees who are trained by us are the new-age painters who are redefining skill and occupational safety level of painting profession. These skill trainings are opening up a sustainable livelihood option for youth as well as adding skilled labour force in the country’s asset base.
  1. We support various healthcare projects that attempt to make a visible and measurable impact towards improving healthcare systems for the community. Company’s healthcare programmes provide support to physically and mentally challenged children, community health clinics, sensitisation on mother and child health, nutrition, school health programmes and life skill education for adolescents.
AkzoNobel India has initiated using Artificial Intelligence and modern technology to initiate Tele Medicine/Digital health clinic for villagers residing in suburbs of Bengaluru. Due to remote location of the area there was no specialist doctor available in the villages which severely affected the healthcare of the villagers. This E Health Clinic is providing health care for more than 1500 villagers across six villages
